You can buy Herman Miller chairs directly or through resellers. On most third-party sites like Amazon, chairs come preconfigured (or with few options). Buying directly from the Herman Miller store gives you complete control. Seven choices will build your Aeron chair. Choose wisely and reach perfection. Choose wrong and you might waste money!
Buying an Aeron directly from Herman Miller lets you customize your Aeron build. Choose a size, lumbar support type, frame style, tilt functions, and more. It’s not as easy as it looks!
For example, mega-streamer Pokimane recently invested in an Aeron chair. She broadcast her struggles with it over a few streams before finally giving up on the chair! Today, her $2000 Aeron investment serves as a cat bed!

To help you avoid making similar mistakes, here’s a simple walkthrough of the seven Aeron buying choices.
Aeron Remastered Review
In the Herman Miller Store, there are seven choices to make in order to build your own Aeron Remastered chair. This section runs through them all:
Aeron Chair Build Options Summary
Herman Miller Aeron Gaming Chairs come almost preconfigured. You can choose a medium or XL size. You can also choose a taller gas lift if you want. In contrast, Aeron Remastered chairs give you seven options.
Here are the choices, with my preferences highlighted.
- Frame and base colors: six styles to choose from ( graphite is cheapest, mineral + polished aluminum is $320 extra).
- Chair size: choose Size A (small), Size B (medium), or Size C (XL). All are the same price.
- Back support: no back support (cheapest); Adjustable Lumbar Support Pad ($75 extra); Posturefit ($95 extra).
- Seat and backrest tilt: Standard Tilt lets you control rocking tension. Tilt Limiter ($100 extra) lets you lock the backrest and seat at different angles.
- Armrests: choose non-adjustable; height-adjustable ($125 extra); 3D adjustable ($255 extra)
- Armrest pads: choose standard or leather ones ($180 extra).
- Caster wheels: choose casters for carpets ; multi-surface casters with ‘quiet roll'($50 extra).
The cheapest Aeron configuration (fixed arms, standard tilt, no lumbar support) costs $1195. The most expensive version (mineral + aluminum frame + all extras) is $2195.
My preferred version (graphite frame, 3D arms, tilt limiter) costs $1550 without lumbar support. To finish the build, I must choose a lumbar support pad ($75) or Posturefit ($95).
Frame Options
There are six options combining different colored frames and mesh upholsteries.

- Standard Graphite: default color
- Black frame with Onyx matte base: $150 extra
- Graphite frame + polished aluminum base: $200 extra
- Mineral frame with satin aluminum base: $220 extra
- Mineral frame with polished aluminum base: $320 extra
- Black frame with polished aluminum base: $300 extra

Size Options
If you go with a Posturefit support, choosing the right size chair is crucial. However, if not able to visit a Herman Miller showroom, you can only guess.
For example, I stand 5’9″. According to Aeron size ratings, both the Size A and B models are options for my size. However, I found neither size with a Posturefit felt right. Protip: in-betweener sizes should choose a sliding lumbar pad to ensure a good fit.
Aeron Size A | Size B | Size C | |
Seat | 15.75″ (W) x 16.75″ (D) | 17″ (W) x 16.75″ (D) | 18.25″ (W) x 18.5″ (D) |
Backrest | 20.25″(W) x 21″ (H) | 21.5″ (W) x 22″ (H) | 22.75″(W) x 23″ (H) |
Seat Height | 14.75″ to 19″ | 16″ to 20.4″ | 16″ to 20.5″ |
Size Rating | 4’10” to 5’9″; 300 pounds | 5’2″ to 6’6″; up to 350 pounds | 5’2″ to 6’6″; up to 350 pounds |
Back Support: Posturefit vs Lumbar Pad
Posturefit has two pads that hit your lumbar and sacral spine (bottom of the tailbone). You can adjust the depth but not the height. With a good fit, PostureFit is superb. With a poor fit, it will feel like a brick against your back!

The sliding lumbar pad lets you adjust the height, but not the depth. It’s not as fancy as the Posturefit, but guaranteed to fit. If you can’t test Herman Miller chairs in person, choose the lumbar pad. Learn more:
Tilt Options
Standard tilt comes with a tension knob like a typical office chair. Use that to control tension as you rock back and forth.
The Tilt Limiter With Seat Angle ($100 extra) does a few things. First, it lets you lock the backrest at three different recline angles. Second, you can tilt the seat from -1° to 16°.

Third, you can tilt the backrest and seat at the same time in synchronous tilt mode. As you recline, the seat automatically tilts up. When you lean forward, it tilts down.
Other Options
The last three options aren’t as complex. Here’s a quick run-through:
- Armrests: choose non-adjustable; height-adjustable ($125 extra); 3D adjustable ($255 extra)
- Armrest pads: choose standard or leather ones ($180 extra).
- Caster wheels: choose casters for carpets; multi-surface casters with ‘quiet roll'($50 extra).
Conclusion: Complicated But Worth It!
These seven choices explain the difference between Aeron Remastered and Aeron Gaming Chairs. Aeron gaming editions come pre-configured with a Posturefit, Tilt-Limiter, and 3D arms. You can choose Size B (medium) or C (XL), plus a longer gas cylinder (if you like). All configurations cost $1695.

Aeron Remastered chairs are more complicated, coming with seven options. You can choose a frame type, chair size, lumbar support type, tilt mechanism type, and armrest config.
Armed with this knowledge, you’re set to make informed choices when buying an Aeron chair. Have fun!
