Secretlab Throne 2020 Series Review
There are three noteworthy features to point out about the Secretlab Throne. The first is the small size. It’s large enough for most adults to use, but best suited for small sizes. See how a tiny Asian woman fits in the chair:
The second noteworthy feature is the design. The Secretlab Throne takes a similar approach as the DXRacing Drifting Series.
Notice the tapered edges along the backrest and seat. These narrow the available back and seat space. The purpose is to lock the user into sitting with perfect posture.
The third standout is the high quality upholstery. The PU leather upholstery feels soft, thick and durable. It’s decently breathable – it doesn’t get sticky in shorts when bare skin rests on the leather.
As you sit in the chair the padding feels dense and firm. Even for smaller sizes, the fit is quite snug.
Premium Throne features include 4D adjustable armrests, tilt lock recline to 165° and a 5-year warranty.
The Secretlab Throne 2020 Series is built to last!
Secretlab Throne 2020 Series Upgrades
The throne has gone through a few upgrades since its launch in 2014. The most recent revamp went down earlier. The model is now the Throne 2020 Series. There are three key upgrades.
First is an upgraded upholstery blend called Prime 2.0 PU leather. Prime 2.0 is four times more durable than the previous version. That’s based on tests for sweat, humidity and flexing. Prime 2.0 also underwent 200,000 cycles of the Martindale Abraison Test. This is 4-5 times more testing than conventional gaming chairs undergo. The longer testing was to make sure the fabric holds up to the terms of Secretlab’s 5-year warranty.
The second key 2020 Series upgrade is the upgraded cold cure foam padding. In the furniture industry, this is the premier padding choice. Luxury car, theater and airplane seats all use cold foam to ensure ultra comfort.
Cold-cure molded foam blends plastic polymers with water and additives into a mold. There, it rises and sets under a low-temperature foaming process. During that time, air pockets form throughout the foam. These helps to distribute weight once the foam sets.
The Throne’s 2020 Series padding is luxurious. What’s most striking when you sit in the chair is how resistant the foam feels. It has a soft firmness that provides gentle cushioning for long hours of sitting.
The third big 2020 Series feature is is upgraded full metal 4-directional armrests. These come with concave armrests coated in a thick layer of PU leather.
These armrests are comfortable and versatile. The 4-directional functionality should cover all positions you need for perfect arm support.

Secretlab Throne upholstery options
The Throne 2020 Series has three PU leather options:
There’s also a Softweave Fabric version in 2-tone grey with pink trim.
Softweave has a few advantages. First, it’s very breathable, with zero stickiness against bare skin even in hot weather. Second, it’s even more durable than PU leather. Unless your Softweave rips, it’s likely to hold up for more than five years!
On the downside, Softweave is harder to clean. Scrub with a damp cloth once a week to maintain. Note that the fabric isn’t 100% stain proof. If you spill red wine or grape juice on your Softweave chair, it will stain!
Secretlab Throne Pros and cons
As with all gaming chairs, there are things to like and dislike about the Throne. Below we summarize the pros and cons.
What we like
The key purpose of a gaming chair is to support good posture for long sitting hours. The Secretlab Throne achieves that with high end materials and a thoughtful design.
For small users, this is one of the only chairs that will give a snug fit. While small users can make use of larger chairs, the snug fit is important. That will ensure that the support pillows hit the body at the right spots. It will also position the shoulder blades at the perfect position along the backrest.
Because the padding is so dense, the Throne may feel uncomfortable at first. If you normally sit with poor posture, it might even feel painful for a few days. That’s because your body needs time to adjust. So don’t worry if the Throne doesn’t feel like bliss right away.
Once the foam adapts to the shape of your body, this chair will delight you with years of comfort.
What we don’t like
If you buy the Throne because you like the style, you may not realize that this is a chair for short, slim users. Anyone with wide hips over 5’9″ who sits in a Throne will feel cramped. The armrests will squeeze into your sides. Your legs will press together. The backrest wings will press squeeze in your shoulders.
Ignorance is bliss. Many gaming chair newbies will squeeze into a Throne without realizing it’s too small. A high quality gaming chair should feel snug but not restrictive.
If your legs press together in the Throne or your body spills over the tapered edges, this chair is too small for you. Check our gaming chair sizing guide to learn more about the importance of buying a chair that fits you.
